For Positive Healing Outcomes in the Treatment of Chronic Leg Ulcers consider V.A.C.® Therapy

V.A.C. Therapy can reduce leg ulcer healing time by 35%2

Leg ulcers occur in a relatively large proportion of the population: especially in countries where the average age of the population is increasing. Leg ulcers, as consequence of an insufficient blood circulation in the lower extremities, are an increasing problem in the world. They are associated with significant morbidity and high costs of health care.1

Most leg ulcers occur as a consequence of Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI). CVI has been estimated to affect 0.2-1.0 % of the population in developed countries. Prevalence in the USA is estimated at between 500,000 and 600,000 – increasing with age. In European countries, such as the UK, incidence is estimated at 3.5 per 1000 inhabitants. Associated costs in the USA are estimated as over $1billion whilst in the UK between £400 and £600million per year is spent on leg ulcer health care.1

A Randomized Controlled Trial, in which V.A.C. Therapy was compared to standard moist wound treatment, showed healing time of Chronic Leg Ulcers could be reduced by 35% when V.A.C. Therapy was applied.2
